Invisalign® clear aligners could be ideal for giving you that brand-new, straighter smile. The treatment works on a range of simple to complex cases

But did you know Invisalign® treatment can help with far more than smile-shyness?

Misaligned teeth, known as malocclusions, occur in various types and can have an impact not just on oral health, but on wider health and wellbeing. Headaches,1 jaw pain2,3 or even bone loss4 can all stem from tooth malocclusion, along with direct issues including uneven wear on the teeth,5 tooth decay and gum disease.6

Types of malocclusion include:

  • Crowding teeth, where there isn’t enough room in the jaw for teeth to fit properly.

  • Spacing, where there is a gap between two teeth or more.

  • Deepbite, where the upper front teeth overlap with the lower front teeth.

  • Underbite, where the lower front teeth are in front of the upper teeth with the mouth closed.

  • Crossbite, when some of the upper teeth sit inside the lower teeth with the mouth closed.

  • Open bite, where there is an increased overlap between the upper and lower teeth.

  • Edge to Edge Bite, when the edges of upper front teeth and lower front teeth hit on each other while the mouth is closed.

Spotlight on deepbites:

We’ll now look at overbites specifically, since the majority of people have at least a slight one.

However, it is important that if so, it falls within the normal, healthy range described by doctors and doesn’t cause any oral or other health issues. Doctors use a percentage to describe overbites in patients, and 5-25% is the ideal, healthy range.

How to fix an deepbite:

So, if you have an overbite which falls outside this healthy range and is causing issues, how can you fix it? Simple, with Invisalign® treatment.

In adult cases, your jawbone can react to the repositioning of your teeth by shifting its own position too, correcting your overbite.

If you are looking for teeth straightening and overbite correction on behalf of your child, their Invisalign® doctor can also deploy the specific Mandibular Advancement feature, which uses precision wings to bring the lower jaw forward during treatment.

It’s designed to improve not only tooth positioning, but also the bite and appearance of the chin and lower jaw.
